WALTERBORO, S.C. – Electric guard Declan Kom of Sheffield, England, has signed a letter of intent to play for USC Salkehatchie for the upcoming 2023 - 24 season.
Kom, a 6-foot, 1-inch, 176-pound guard, competes in the Elite Academy Basketball League, England's top division for players under the age of 19. He plays for The Sheffield College and Coach Bradley Connor. Kom is currently averaging 22 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
"Declan's athleticism is just different. He can be very explosive offensively and has the ability to score in a variety of different ways. But like everyone we recruit, he can also really pass and has great court vision," Coach Matt Lynch said. "I have high hopes for Declan. I believe in him. He's been well coached over in the UK and comes from a terrific family. He is a more than capable defender and I look forward to helping him develop into a future NCAA Division 1 prospect."
"It is fantastic news that Declan has committed to University of South Carolina Salkehatchie. He has been with our program for the last 3 years and has developed into one of the most exciting prospects in the UK," said Coach Bradley Connor of Sheffield Elite. "I am looking forward to seeing his game go to the next level and wish him all the best on the next stage of his basketball and academic development."
Kom will continue to compete in both the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) as well as the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) for the Under 20 Championships before making the trip "across the pond" for the fall semester.
