USC Salkehatchie Men’s Soccer took an early lead but ultimately fell 2–1 to Georgia Military College in Thursday’s away match.

Obedi Bahombawa opened the scoring after Sarrive Ishiabwe delivered a through ball behind the Georgia Military defense. Bahombawa used a burst of speed to beat the center back before driving a shot on goal to give Salkehatchie the lead.

Despite creating several promising opportunities to extend its advantage, Salkehatchie was unable to convert those chances. Georgia Military responded with two goals to secure the win.

“A disappointing loss considering that we had an early lead and lots of promising opportunities to expand the lead,” the coaching staff said. “The good news is that our substitutes played well when called upon, proving once again that we have a deep bench.”

“We need to work on finishing,” Alejandro Romero added.

Cyril Vital played the opening 45 minutes in goal without allowing a score. Sergio Ruiz played 25 minutes and conceded two goals, while Pedro Duarte closed out the remaining 20 minutes without allowing a goal.

Salkehatchie also suffered a difficult loss to its lineup when Jacob Lestz sustained a broken collarbone during the match. Lestz has been an impact player on both sides of the ball, and his aggressive style of play will be missed in the team’s upcoming games.
