Salkehatchie Volleyball Secures Thrilling Conference Victory Over USC Union

UNION, S.C. – In a huge conference win, the USC Salkehatchie volleyball team secured a thrilling four-set victory (3-1) over USC Union.
Head Coach Dani Aquino described the high-stakes match as a "rollercoaster of emotions." "There were high highs and low lows. But in the end, we came together and pulled out a very significant win."
The decisive moment came after Salkehatchie dropped a hard-fought third set. They refused to give in, rallying with an incredible surge of energy to dominate the final set and clinch the victory.
Freshman Libero Hailey Stephens, a clear leader on the court, highlighted the team's mental toughness. "After losing that 3rd set, we pulled through as a team," Stephens said. "Our energy level was through the roof those last couple of sets. I'm very proud of everyone."
Stephens put on a defensive masterclass, leading the team with 5 service aces and contributing an impressive 21 digs and 21 perfect serve receive passes with zero errors.
Offensively, freshman Martina Sommaruga had a team-high 12 kills. Sommaruga also excelled in the back row, adding 22 digs and 24 serves passed with zero errors. Madison Tauber anchored the front line with 6 block touches and 2 solo block stuffs.
This pivotal conference win not only showcased the Indians' resilience but also strengthened their position in the league.
Next Match: Salkehatchie returns to the court this Friday, September 5, at home against Fayetteville Tech. The match is scheduled for 6 PM at the USC Salkehatchie campus in Walterboro.
