USC Salkehatchie men’s soccer showed resilience in the second half of its 3-1 loss to Central Georgia Technical College.
Salkehatchie opened the match with intensity, but Central Georgia Tech shifted the momentum after scoring the first goal. Two additional goals sent Salkehatchie into halftime trailing 3-0.
“We started strong, but we became deflated after they scored their first goal,” the coach said. “We regained our intensity in the second half and won that half 1-0.”
Etungano Wa put Salkehatchie on the board in the second half, scoring off an assist from Roger Balongelwa. Goalkeeper Sergio Ruiz faced Central Georgia Tech’s first-half attack, while Cyril Vital took over in goal after halftime and kept the opposing team scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Despite the loss, the team’s second-half performance offered a glimpse of the determination it will carry into its upcoming matches.
“We’ll get them next time,” player Joel Matheuse said.
