Gastonia, N.C. – The USC Salkehatchie men's basketball team won its first conference game over Gaston College, 85-78, improving to 11-7 overall.
In the first half, the game was back and forth, but Salkehatchie was able to quickly establish a presence inside. Playing together and applying full-court pressure, Salkehatchie took a 17-point lead into halftime, 49-32.
In the second half, Gaston did not quit and battled all the way back to get the game within two, 70-68. Back-to-back threes by Salkehatchie pushed the lead back to a comfortable 8 points, 76-68. Salkehatchie seized the victory using free throw shooting, rebounding, and defense.
Salkehatchie will return to action at home this Thursday, Jan. 25, as they welcome the reigning conference champions, Cape Fear Community College. This game was rescheduled from Jan. 13.
