USC Salkehatchie Women's Basketball Shows Resilience in Loss to Eastern Florida State

The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie women’s basketball team competed in a closely contested battle against Eastern Florida State College on Friday night, ultimately falling 63-56. Despite the outcome, the contest served as a testament to the Indians’ significant competitive spirit and second-half resilience.

Salkehatchie battled a seasoned opponent, holding Eastern Florida State to eight points in one quarter. The Indians utilized an aggressive third-quarter effort, generating a key 14-6 run that successfully tied the game.

Coach Erin Houser emphasized the long-term potential of the young roster.

"Although we did not come away with the win, I have great confidence in this group. With 11 freshmen on the roster, we recognize that growth takes time and experience," Houser said. "We made mistakes and faced moments of miscommunication, but what continues to impress me is this team’s resilience and competitive spirit. I’m proud of the effort our players showed, and we’ll use this as an opportunity to learn, grow, and be better prepared for the next challenge."

The USC Salkehatchie offense was powered by sophomore guard Dalashia Brunson, who delivered a game-high 17 points. She was supported by Eliza Baskins with 15 points and freshman Janiya Carter, who contributed 8 points. Defensively, Kemarja Peay was a vital asset, recording 4 steals and continually disrupting the opponent's offensive rhythm.

Salkehatchie will continue to build on this competitive showing as they progress through their season schedule, hosting their next game at home on Saturday, November 8, against Albany Technical College (Albany Tech) at 1 p.m.
