September 30, 2025 – The Salkehatchie Volleyball team delivered a monumental effort Tuesday night, challenging the conference-leading and undefeated USC Sumter Fire Ants in a grueling five-set battle (2-3 loss).

The match ended in a hard-fought defeat, but the performance marked a significant achievement for the Salkehatchie program. Salkehatchie is the only team in the conference this season to push USC Sumter to a decisive fifth set, demonstrating remarkable resilience and competitive spirit.

Sophomore Madison Ayuso anchored the team’s offense and setting, leading the statistical charge with an impressive double-double, topping the squad with 12 kills and contributing 21 assists. On the defensive side, Freshman Hailey Stephens proved clutch, logging 23 perfect digs to keep rallies alive against Sumter's powerful attack.

Following the match, Coach Dani Aquino praised the team’s development. "We are progressing surprisingly well at a consistent pace," said Aquino. "The girls really played well tonight against a team who is undefeated in the conference. We will continue to work hard in the gym to work on our weaknesses and continue to rise."

The team will look to carry the momentum and high level of play from this match into their upcoming schedule as they continue their pursuit of success in the conference. Salkehatchie’s next contest is on the road against Fayetteville Tech CC in Fayetteville, NC, with first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
