The Salkehatchie volleyball team showcased a thrilling performance against last year’s conference champion, USC Lancaster, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in a highly competitive match. While the Indians ultimately fell in four sets (1-3), the level of play marked a significant stride for the program.
Salkehatchie came out strong, taking the first set from the visiting conference champions before engaging in a point-for-point battle over the final three sets.
“This was easily the best we’ve played against last year’s conference champion,” said Coach Dani Aquino. “We took the first set and then battled point for point the remaining 3 sets. Volleyball is a game of mistakes, it just came down to who made the last one.”

The team’s defense was anchored by outstanding performances from several players:

October’s Player of the Month, Martina Sommaruga, led the offensive effort with 13 kills.
