Salk Volleyball Finishes an almost Perfect Spring Season

WALTERBORO, SC- The ladies of the Salkehatchie volleyball squad finished their spring season with only one loss and an almost perfect spring record.

Taking on opponents like Columbia College, USC Sumter, St. Andrews College, and USC Union, the Salkehatchie volleyball crew battled through every point, coming up victorious. The one match they lost was a five-set nail-biter with the last set ending in a 13-15 loss. A referee's call marked the final point of the game.

"That was a tough way to lose such a long battle, but when you have a game like that, where the first four sets ended in scores like 26-24 and 25-27, it really could've been anyone's game," said Coach Dani Aquino.

As the final point of their last match concluded, the Salk Volleyball team erupted in emotion.

"This is a crew that has been together every single day for the past 2 years. The moment we won that final point, the floodgate of tears broke," Coach Aquino explained.

After shaking hands with their final opponent, as a team, they huddled up into a circle on the court and hugged. Onlookers watched as they shared final embraces, sad that their Salk journey was over, excited for the teams they were going to next, grateful for the family they've gained.

Captain Connelly Smith said, "I'm so grateful to Coach Dani and my teammates here at Salk. I never knew how much coming to Salk would affect me. Thanks to the support of my coach and my teammates, I have the confidence to continue my career at the next level."

Fellow Captain Serah Rego added, "I was crying so hard I couldn't even come up with the words. I love this Salk family so much. I wasn't even sure I wanted to continue playing after Salk. But Coach Dani and this team showed me that I do have what it takes, and I'm excited for my next chapter!

Coach Aquino has an almost entirely brand-new team coming on campus for the fall with a packed schedule, including a record-breaking six tri-matches. Fall 2025 preseason begins August 1.
