PETERSBURG, V.A. — Turning to its deep bench and relentless play style, the Salkehatchie men’s basketball team knocked off Wake Tech Community College, 109-78, to advance to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 10 Tournament at Richard Bland Community College.
Third-seeded Salkehatchie, after dispatching sixth-seeded Wake Tech for the third time this season, will chase a berth in the title game for the second time in three years. Salk will take on Brunswick Community College in the semifinal that tips off Friday at 4:30 p.m. The winner will play either top seeded Gaston College or fifth seeded and host, Richard Bland.
Salkehatchie, which improved to 24-7, won its second in a row. For the 20th time this season the Indians scored over 100 points. The pace, depth, and shooting continue to be the calling card for the Indians.
Against Wake Tech, Salkehatchie seized control immediately and took a 59-33 advantage into the half. In the second half, Salkehatchie remained in the driver seat due to their depth.
