USC Salkehatchie Volleyball Takes Down Top Opponents in Preseason Scrimmage

The USC Salkehatchie volleyball team kicked off their season with a commanding performance at a preseason scrimmage against conference rivals USC Lancaster, USC Sumter and USC Union. Salkehatchie came out on top, showcasing their potential with a victory over a challenging field, including a decisive 2-1 win against USC Lancaster, the #1 seed in the conference.
Head Coach Dani Aquino expressed her excitement about the team’s performance. "Today was not only a test to see how we gel as a brand new team, but also how we measure against all other teams in our conference," Aquino said. "We walked out of that gym today with a feeling of elation and an excitement for our season."
Salkehatchie displayed impressive teamwork and individual talent throughout the scrimmage. Among the standout players was Martina Sommaruga from Italy, who led the team with eight service aces. Eboni Thomas proved to be a versatile force on the court, playing every rotation and leading the team in kills.
The team's strong showing sets a positive tone for the rest of the season. Their next match is their home opener on Thursday, August 21 at 6 p.m. against Clinton College at USC Salkehatchie in Walterboro. The team encourages the entire community to come out and show its support as they begin their journey this season.
