ALLENDALE, SC – The USC Salkehatchie volleyball team’s impressive winning streak came to an end, following a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Fayetteville Tech. The match, a strategic addition to the team's schedule, was chosen by Coach Dani Aquino to challenge the team and prepare them for future competition.
Despite the final score, Salkehatchie showcased grit and determination throughout the contest, with numerous long rallies and impressive defensive plays.
"I knew this was going to be a tough game, but after a long winning streak we needed to face a big competitor like FTCC," said Aquino. "As a coach, I always say, 'Once we reach a certain goal, I raise the bar.' That's why I put this match at this point in our season—to show us not where we are, but where we want to be and what we need to do to get there."
Several players stood out with notable performances. Outside hitter Martina Sommaruga was a defensive leader, tallying 27 serves received and 11 digs. Middle hitter Madison Tauber dominated at the net with 4 solo blocks, 3 block assists, and 6 block touches.
The team will look to bounce back on the road on Saturday, September 6, when they face Lenoir Community College at 11 a.m.
