USC Salkehatchie Volleyball Dominates USC Union (3-1), Securing Minimum 3rd Seed in Conference Tournament

WALTERBORO, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie volleyball team delivered a commanding performance on Thursday night, defeating rival USC Union with a decisive final score of 3 sets to 1. This conference win guarantees Salkehatchie at least the 3rd seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Head Coach Dani Aquino praised the team's unified effort and realization of their full potential on the court.
"Tonight was the massive win we needed. It finally all came together. The offense was on point, defense, setting, serve and serve receive were all locked in," said Aquino. "They dominated and never backed down. I could not be prouder of how they realized their potential, securing the necessary spot in the conference tournament."
The victory was made even sweeter as the team celebrated Sophomore Night, recognizing Madison Ayuso and Kambree Meyer for their dedication, hard work, and spirit both on and off the court.
Statistical Highlights
The Salkehatchie offense was led by a potent trio of hitters who reached double-digit kills:
Maddie Tauber had a stellar night, dominating the offense with a season-high 15 kills.
Martina Sommaruga contributed significantly with 12 kills.
Leyna Wierzbicki added 11 crucial kills to the tally.
Defensively, the team was anchored by Libero Hailey Stephens, who put on a spectacular display. Stephens owned the back court with a game-high 23 digs, including 9 momentum-shifting saves that thwarted USC Union’s attacks.
