USC Salkehatchie Names Christopher Brown as New Athletic Director

The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie announces the appointment of Christopher Brown as its new athletic director. Brown brings over 24 years of experience in athletic administration and coaching to the role, having previously served as athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Morris College in Sumter, S.C.

A graduate of Troy University with a degree in political science, Brown is a seasoned leader in collegiate athletics. During his tenure at Morris College, he notably guided the men’s basketball program to its first postseason appearance in over three decades.

"We are thrilled to welcome Christopher Brown to the USC Salkehatchie family," said Dean April Cone. "His extensive background in athletic leadership, coupled with his dedication to student success and community engagement, makes him the ideal person to lead our athletic department into a new era. We are confident that his vision and expertise will elevate our programs and provide an exceptional experience for our student-athletes."

Brown says he is excited to work with the staff, faculty and students at Salkehatchie.

"My top priorities are to build infrastructure within the athletic department, renovate current facilities, and build new athletic facilities through fundraising and grant funds. I also look forward to adding value to our established sport programs and introducing new programs such as golf, e-sports, and tennis, all while helping to increase enrollment."

Brown's philosophy is rooted in the principles of dedication and perseverance, a sentiment he finds reflected in Jon Gordon's book, Show Up and Do the Work.

"That title, 'Show Up and Do the Work,' tells you a lot about who I am and the standards I uphold," Brown said. "It’s about consistency, commitment, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in every endeavor. My goal is to instill that same work ethic and drive in our student-athletes and staff, ensuring we build a program that consistently strives for the best."

Outside of his professional life, Brown is married to Teresa Brown and has one daughter, Courtlyn Maple, who is a rising senior at USC Upstate. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his family.
