USC Salkehatchie Men’s Soccer Season Ends in Hard-Fought Region 10 Playoff Clash

The USC Salkehatchie men’s soccer team concluded their 2025 campaign on a high note of effort and determination, falling 2-0 to Southwest Virginia Community College (SWVCC) in the opening round of the Region 10 playoffs.

Despite dictating the run of play and applying consistent pressure, the Indians were unable to find the breakthrough goal, seeing SWVCC advance to the semifinal round of the championship tournament.

The first blow to the Indians came late in the first half when SWVCC was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, resulting in the opponent’s first score of the afternoon.

“We dominated the run of play for long stretches and put constant pressure on the opponent's goal, but were unable to get one past SW Virginia's first-team all-region goalkeeper,” said Coach Glass. “The boys played their hearts out, but their keeper was outstanding today.”

Trailing 1-0 in the second period, the Indians pushed aggressively for the equalizer, sending much of the Salkehatchie team forward. Southwest capitalized on the resulting space, scoring the decisive goal on a counterattack to secure the 2-0 victory and their ticket to the semifinals.
