ALLENDALE, S.C. — In an exciting, back-and-forth battle against top-ranked USC Lancaster, the USC Salkehatchie men's soccer team fell 4-2 on Wednesday.
The Indians showed significant offensive firepower, but ultimately came up short against a tough opponent.
"We've been scoring, but have had issues in the back," said Head Coach Bill Glass, acknowledging the team's strong attack but challenges on defense.
Midway through the first half, Etungano Etungano headed home a pinpoint cross from Julian Beltran, giving Salkehatchie the lead. After the visitors from USC Lancaster equalized, the match became a see-saw contest.
Salkehatchie regained the lead when Franciso Jorcely converted a well-placed feed from Joao Matheus Costa. Despite the home team's best efforts, USC Lancaster was able to respond, ultimately securing the victory.
The Indians showed great heart and promise against a formidable opponent and will look to build on their offensive success in their next match on Sunday, Sept. 21 at home against SW Virginia Community College at 1 p.m.
