WALTERBORO, S.C. – The USC Salkehatchie men's basketball team defeated the reigning Region 10 champions Cape Fear on Thursday night, 90-84. With the win, Salkehatchie improves to 12-7 on the season.
In the early minutes of the first half, the game was back and fourth as both teams battled for control. Cape Fear jumped out to an 8-7 lead before a transition three gave USC Salkehatchie a 10-8 lead. From that point on, the lead stayed with the home team. Salkehatchie utilized their transition offense and unselfish play to take a 40-31 advantage at halftime.
The second half was extremely physical and competitive. Salkehatchie was able to use utilize its depth to create multiple runs throughout the first 15 minutes . The 14 freshmen of USC Salkehatchie were able to grind out the final minutes and go on to dethrone the reigning champs of Region 10.
Salkehatchie will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 27 as they travel to Hudson, N.C., to take on Caldwell Tech. Caldwell is currently 17-1, and in first place in Region 10 play.
