Phillips and Munn earn All-Region Honors

Gavin Phillips and Banks Munn earned All-Region honors for their performances for USC Salkehatchie baseball this season.

Gavin Phillips, a catcher from Andrew Jackson High School, was voted Second Team All Region. Phillips caught both years at Salkehatchie, earning the number one spot this year.

“Although he is very skilled at his craft, his talent pales in comparison to his work ethic, his dedication to the game, and his commitment to his teammates,” Coach Jeremy Joye said.

Banks Munn, an outfielder from Lugoff-Elgin High School, was named to the Region 10 All-Defensive Team, an honor Joye said is very much deserved. Out of 36 total chances, Banks collected 35 putouts and 1 assist for a fielding percentage of 1.000 (or 1,000 in laymen’s terms).

“It did not matter what else was going on in the game for Banks, even if he was having an off day at the plate. If a ball was hit in his general vicinity, the entire dugout knew ‘we’ve got a guy there.’ And he always came through for us,” Joye said.
