Elisha Baker Named Student-Athlete of the Month for February

USC Salkehatchie Athletics is proud to announce that freshman baseball standout Elisha Baker has been named the Kesia Brown State Farm Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2026.

A native of Lewisville, S.C., Baker has quickly distinguished himself as a cornerstone of the baseball program through his relentless work ethic, academic focus, and emerging leadership.

Leading by Example

Despite being in his first year of collegiate play, Baker has garnered praise from coaches and peers alike for his "first-in, last-out" mentality. Whether he is in the starting lineup or supporting his teammates from the dugout, his presence is felt.

“Elisha participates in all team-sanctioned functions. Unless he is in class, he is early to practice, and he is always one of the last to leave the field,” says Head Baseball Coach Jeremy Joye. “He has become a very influential leader among his teammates, keeping morale high regardless of the scoreboard.”

Excellence Beyond the Diamond

Baker’s dedication extends well beyond the foul lines. He is known for his diligent approach to his studies as an undecided major, striving for the same excellence in the classroom that he displays on the field.

His discipline is also evident in his off-season training. Baker is a regular at the YMCA in Barnwell, S.C., where community members have frequently noted his intense weight training sessions and his consistently respectful demeanor toward staff and fellow gym-goers.

In His Own Words

Reflecting on the honor, Baker emphasizes that being a student-athlete is a 24/7 commitment to personal growth:

“Being Student-Athlete of the Month means proving that discipline doesn’t clock out when practice ends — it shows up in the classroom, in the weight room, and in your character. It’s not just about talent; it’s about balance, leadership, and choosing excellence every single day.” - Elisha Baker
